About PTK Ranch

PTK Ranch is an experienced and reputable dog breeder focused on breeding puppies for long term healthy and overall balanced behavior with good dispositions. We specialize in Aussiedoodle, Teddy Bear (Shichon), and occasionally Standard Poodle puppies located in Delta on the Western Slope of Colorado. Our goal is to produce healthy quality puppies with suitable behaviors and temperaments for a variety of environments. Health testing includes DNA test, PennHIP, and OFA checks on parent dogs in all suggested areas for their breed to ensure each puppy has the best life possible! Puppies get introduced to many things in a systematic way to encourage bravery and reward trying, most based on the Puppy Culture rearing system. Another high priority is communication with you, the buyer. PTK Ranch is transparent with health test results and stays in touch throughout the whole purchase process. Our Family

Mike grew up in the picturesque town of Montrose, where he developed a deep passion for the outdoors and agriculture that shaped his early years and continues to influence his life today. Whether he's behind the wheel of a powerful tractor plowing through fields of golden wheat or navigating the rocky and rugged terrain in his trusty Jeep, he revels in these pursuits that connect him to the land and the natural beauty that surrounds him. Meanwhile, Holly has had the opportunity to experience a variety of different places and cultures throughout her life, but she ultimately discovered that her true home lies here in the stunning western slope of Colorado, a region rich in breathtaking landscapes and a warm sense of community.

Holly has nurtured a lifelong passion for horses and dogs that began in her childhood and has only grown stronger over the years. She holds an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Horse Training and Management, demonstrating her commitment and expertise in the field. Initially, PTK Ranch was established with a primary focus on horses, reflecting Holly's deep connection to these magnificent creatures. However, as the years have gone by, we recognized a growing demand for high-quality puppies, prompting us to expand our offerings to meet the needs of our community.

As of now, our family has grown to include six members. Our journey began with the arrival of our first son in 2016, followed by our precious little girl, who joined us in early 2018. In October 2019, we welcomed our second son, and the newest addition to our family, a delightful boy, was born in August 2021.

We cherish our little family and all of our beloved animals, as they bring so much joy and companionship into our lives. Our endeavors and daily activities revolve around our core values of Faith, Family, and Friends. We conduct our business as if we are working for Christ, always striving to treat our customers like beloved family and cherished friends.

Kind Words from our

Puppy Parents

PTK Ranch is an amazing breeder. 100% transparent, caring and dedicated to their parents, litters and future parents of these amazing puppies!! I did my research and am so glad we chose to work with Holly and Mike. We have had our 8-week only puppy less than 24 hours and he is settling right in because of the loving care he received along with his amazing start. Bodie is a happy, healthy, gentle little fur ball of a Teddy Bear puppy. We are grateful to PTK Ranch for our amazing new little family member!! 🐾❤️

- Paige

I had the best experience with PTK Ranch! Holly was quick to respond to all of my questions, she showed me the dogs and all around her breeding space (via video conference), I got to meet my pup's parents, and she answered all 100 of my questions. Holly is an exceptionally informed breeder, and I got the best puppy in the world. She's happy, healthy, friendly, and was well socialized even before I got her. Thanks, Holly!

- Adele

Holly and her family have truly changed my life. I have two beautiful Aussiedoodles, Bear & Bruin who were bred by Holly and her family. I know getting a dog can be stressful, but Holly goes above and beyond. The dogs have the best temperaments and I truly couldn’t be happier. I often get stopped on the street because not only are the pups cute, but they are also so well behaved and I always recommend PTK.

- Caitlin

I haven’t had a puppy for 15 years, after researching breeds I knew I wanted a shichon (teddy bear). I started looking for  breeders and I am so happy I went with Holly. She does puppy culture with the dogs, dna testing  and is responsive to all questions.  She let me wait for the litter that I wanted and I could tell the day I picked up my puppy that she was different, she was so well adjusted!! Our new puppy has been an absolute joy to have in our family and I am a forever believer that DNA and puppy culture really matters!!!

Frequently Asked Questions

Our focus when breeding our pups is to produce dogs that are family friendly, smart, and great companions. We do our absolute best to breed only quality parents to produce quality puppies that will live long healthy lives. As they grow up we work with them so they have the advantage of coping with stress appropriately and are very trainable and easy to train. All of the our dogs get along, live with, and love kids and other animals. We also try to provide low-shed pups, but cannot guarantee that is what you will end up with as our Australian Shepherds are not low-shed, but they are very smart!

  • What do you recommend for training?

At PTK Ranch, we offer a variety of training options to suit your comfort level

    • For the DIY enthusiasts, we recommend BAXTER & Bella. They provide excellent week-by-week checklists and have professional trainers available to answer any questions.
    • If you’re looking for a jump start, we offer a crate training and name recognition course, available at limited openings, for $300 per week, with a recommendation of two weeks.
    • Some individuals prefer a full Puppy Kindergarten course or a Turnkey program. In these cases, we enjoy working with Dallas at Cimmarron Dog Training, as she delivers consistent results and has a well-tested reputation.
  • How do I pick my puppy?

The selection process begins at 3 weeks old. Until that point, all puppies are listed as "available," as we cannot determine who will or will not be chosen.

Please note that we proceed in the order of the Wait List without skipping anyone. Buyers have the option to adjust their preferences regarding gender, color, size, or any other aspect. If you are next in line, you'll have the opportunity to choose from the available puppies (or defer if you need more time).

  • Should I get a male or female?

Many people claim that "girls bond/get along better with boys" and vice versa. However, I’ve found that some of my (Holly's) most devoted dogs have been females, while my husband (Mike) has always had male dogs. When considering the addition of a new puppy to your household, it largely depends on the personality and traits of your current dog (if applicable). My recommendation would be to consider what you believe would be the best match and possibly seek advice from those familiar with your specific situation. Other factors to take into account include whether your dogs are or will be spayed or neutered and the timing of that decision. From experience, if you want to avoid your male marking his territory inside your home, getting him fixed is ALWAYS a wise choice.

Please note; we advise waiting at least five months before spaying or neutering to support the dog's development and long-term health.

  • Why do you dock tails?

Based on experience and vet guidance.

    Comfort

That’s not typically what most think of when you consider tail docking, but in 2018 a litter had 4 puppies with kinked tails. Had we not docked, this would be painful for the pup as it grew older and even more so prone to catching it on items causing even further pain.

    Prevention

Australian Shepherds and Poodles are known for being “hard waggers” or having “happy tail syndrome.” What this means in laymen terms is that they are known for wagging their tails so hard that they injure themselves. Whether is on the corner of a post, a wall, a metal divider in your car, or whatever else happens to be there. We've seen it happen.

  • When do you dock tails?

To have the smallest effect on each pup physically and in any other way we dock at birth. This is why when we are asked, “Can you not dock my dog’s tail” the answer is “Sorry no”. Docking at any other time could make it harder on the pup and as I have sought counseling and training on docking, this makes it the easiest and best option for our pups.

  • What is a Guardian Home?

Simply put, a Guardian Home is "your dog in our breeding program". We agree on how many litters  we will have and within how many years. Once the agreement is fulfilled, we spay and render all ownership of the dog to the Guardian Home at no cost to the owner.

A couple keynotes that we feel are important to mention are:

    • Guardian Homes must live within a 60 minute drive of our home town (Delta, CO) for the duration of our contract
    • Guardian Homes are responsible for all non-breeding specific related  maintenance    (grooming, training, regular vaccines, wormers etc)
    • Breeder will take possession of the female 10 days prior to expected whelping date and until the litter of the dog turn 6 weeks old
    • Breeder is responsible for all breeding specific related costs
    • We average a expected 3-4 litters per female prior to spay but we do not breed prior to 1 year of age

Contact Us if you are interested in becoming a Guardian Home

  • Where else can I find you?

We make regular posts on Facebook, Instagram, occasional posts on TikTok and YouTube.

We are also PACFA license and inspected with the state of Colorado, have several Google reviews from previous buyers, and also have a PTK Facebook Group for folks that have purchased on of our puppies prior to share and keep up with littermates. We want to provide you with Peace of Mind and feel the best way to do that is with transparency throughout the whole process. We look forward to building a relationship with all of our puppy families.
