At three weeks of age, we begin the selection process by going down our Wait List. Until that point, all puppies are listed as "available," as we cannot determine who will or will not be chosen. I often receive numerous inquiries about the differences between genders or personalities, which can be challenging to articulate. To assist with this, I aim to provide a general overview along with links to articles that offer additional information beyond my personal insights.
Please note that I proceed in the order of my Wait List without skipping anyone. Buyers have the option to adjust their preferences regarding gender, color, size, or any other aspect. If you are next in line, you'll have the opportunity to choose from the available puppies (or defer if you need more time).
Many people claim that "girls bond/get along better with boys" and vice versa. However, I’ve found that some of my (Holly's) most devoted dogs have been females, while my husband (Mike) has always had male dogs. When considering the addition of a new puppy to your household, it largely depends on the personality and traits of your current dog (if applicable). My recommendation would be to consider what you believe would be the best match and possibly seek advice from those familiar with your specific situation. Other factors to take into account include whether your dogs are or will be spayed or neutered and the timing of that decision. From experience, if you want to avoid your male marking his territory inside your home, getting him fixed is ALWAYS a wise choice.
Please note; we advise waiting at least five months before spaying or neutering to support the dog's development and long-term health.
Character traits presents a challenge for me, as I have employed various methods to assess personalities, yet the results often feel unpredictable. What I've come to realize is that how they behave in the litter setting does NOT accurately reflect who they truly are once they are brought home. They transition from shared attention and a familiar environment to experiencing either complete focus or shared attention with an older sibling figure. This dynamic reveals aspects of their personality that we don’t get the chance to observe during their time here. I firmly believe that they will blossom into the individuals you encourage them to be, while also following your instincts!
That said, it’s important not to confuse a lack of training with a "personality." Your puppy is still learning and primarily experiencing new environments, interacting with different people, meeting various dogs, and acclimating to unusual sounds, among other things. As a breeder, my capacity to teach and guide a puppy is limited. Therefore, my focus is on what I can expose my puppies to before they leave. We strive for positive experiences while encouraging bravery and effort. Beyond that, it’s in your hands!
